To reset an adjustable bed without a remote, unplug the base from the wall outlet, wait 60 seconds, and plug it back in. The reset happens in the control box and power supply under the bed, so the remote is not involved. Manufacturers give waiting times from 30 seconds to 2 minutes for most bases.
One thing most guides get wrong: the manufacturer pages we checked describe this power reset, not a hidden “reset button” that you hold for 10 to 15 seconds. Some control boxes do have a small pairing button, but that re-links the remote. It does not reset the base. Always confirm against your own manual.
Last reviewed: October 2026. The steps below come from the support pages and manuals published by Tempur-Pedic, Sleep Number, Reverie and Sven & Son. Where a brand does not publish a step, this guide says so instead of guessing.
What “resetting” an adjustable bed actually means
An adjustable bed base is a motorized frame with a control box, a power supply and a remote (usually RF or Bluetooth). If you are new to these beds, our guide on what an adjustable bed is covers the basics. “Reset” can mean three different things:
- Power reset (power cycle): unplugging the base so the control box restarts. This is the only reset you can do without a remote.
- Re-pairing: linking the remote and the control box again. See our guide to syncing an adjustable bed remote.
- Remote reset: resetting the handset itself. See how to reset an adjustable bed remote.
Before you start: safety checks
- Put the base flat with the motors stopped, if you can. Tempur-Pedic’s owner’s manual says to unplug the base only when it is flat with all motors off.
- Make sure no children, pets, bedding or objects are under or beside the frame.
- Plug the base back directly into a wall outlet or a surge protector, as Tempur-Pedic’s manual recommends.
How to reset an adjustable bed without a remote (power cycle)
- Stop the bed. Make sure nothing is moving and nothing is trapped under the frame.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait. Wait at least 60 seconds. Use the table below if your brand gives a different time.
- Plug the cord back in. If the bed still does nothing, try a different outlet or test the outlet with another appliance.
- Check the power light. Tempur-Pedic tells owners to look for a lit LED on the control box. Sleep Number says the light on the power supply should glow green.
- Test the bed with any control you have: the remote once you find it, a wired controller, or the brand’s app.
How long to unplug the base, by brand
| Brand or base | Unplug time (from the manufacturer) | What else the manufacturer says |
|---|---|---|
| Tempur-Pedic Ergo (Power and Smart) | 60 seconds | Check the LED on the control box, the wiring under the base, and try another outlet |
| Sleep Number FlexFit base with remote (sold 2026 and later) | 30 seconds | Confirm the power supply light is green and clear any obstruction |
| Sleep Number FlexFit, four-digit error codes | 2 minutes | Usually a temporary power or communication issue |
| Sleep Number app message “Your FlexFit Needs to Be Reset” | 20 seconds | Plug back in and wait 2 minutes before testing |
| Sealy adjustable bases | 1 minute | Check batteries, cords, and anything blocking the frame |
| Somosbeds | 1 hour | Check the wired connections under the base |
| Leggett & Platt | See our Leggett & Platt reset guide | Power cycle only; no base reset button is published |
| Reverie | No reset time published on its support page | Points to remote pairing, charging the Bluetooth remote and checking the wall outlet |
| Sven & Son | No reset time published on its help center | Covers pairing with the blue button on the power supply (below) |
Brand notes
Tempur-Pedic
For the Ergo Power Base, Tempur-Pedic’s support page tells owners to check that the wires under the base are secure and nothing blocks the frame, confirm the control box LED is lit, unplug the base for 60 seconds, and try a different outlet. For the remote, it lists fresh batteries, child lock turned off and a confirmed pairing with the base.
Sleep Number
For bases with a remote sold in 2026 and later, Sleep Number’s support guide says to check the green power-supply light, make sure the head or foot is not touching a wall or object, and unplug the base for 30 seconds. Sleep Number refers FlexFit base service to Leggett & Platt. For more help, see our guide on why a Sleep Number bed is not adjusting.
Sven & Son
Sven & Son’s help center explains pairing, not a reset. If you have the remote, you can re-pair it using the blue button on the power supply (steps below). Owners can also read the Sven & Son remote control manual on our site.
Reverie
Reverie’s support page covers charging the Bluetooth remote, re-pairing the remote, the Nightstand app and checking the outlet. We did not find a published base-reset button, so we do not list one.
If the base still does not respond
Work through these in order before you assume something is broken:
- Power: confirm the outlet works, and check any surge protector is switched on.
- Cables: check the connections under the base are firmly seated.
- Obstructions: clear bedding, cords and objects around the frame, and keep the head and foot sections away from walls and furniture.
- Child lock or remote lock: some remotes lock out the buttons. On Tempur-Pedic Ergo remotes the backlight flashes twice when child lock is turned on or off. On the Sleep Number remote, the lock is toggled by holding the lock button for 5 seconds.
- Batteries: replace them even if the remote lights up. The 2026 Sleep Number remote uses 2 AAA batteries.
- Pairing: if the remote lights up but the bed does not move, it has likely lost its pairing. See below.
If none of this helps, the fault is probably in the control box or a motor, and the manufacturer’s support line is the next step. Our guide on an adjustable bed that is not working goes deeper.
Remote lights up but the bed won’t move, and re-pairing failed? If you have a Leggett & Platt base, see the Wallhugger replacement remote on Amazon and match it to your base model first.
How to re-pair the remote (Sven & Son example)
Many bases have a pairing button on the power supply or control box. On Sven & Son bases, Sven & Son’s instructions are:
- Find the blue pairing button on the power supply cord.
- On the remote, press and hold the head-up and foot-up buttons.
- While holding them, press and hold the blue button.
- Three short beeps mean the remote is paired. If you hear no beeps, hold the remote buttons first, then press the blue button.
Older Sleep Number FlexFit+ bases (sold 2012 to 2014) use a similar idea: press the “Learn” button on the power box, then hold Raise Head and Flat on the remote for 10 seconds. Other brands differ, so check your manual.
How to reset the remote itself (Tempur-Pedic Ergo Premier example)
If you have the remote but it will not work, Tempur-Pedic gives these steps for the Ergo Premier:
- Put in fresh batteries.
- Unplug the base for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Press and hold the FLAT button. The screen flashes “FLAT”, then changes to “RST” after 15 seconds.
- Keep holding for another 30 to 60 seconds while the base moves forward and backward. The reset is finished when nothing clicks or moves for at least 10 seconds.
- Test the remote.
These steps are specific to that model. For other remotes, see our full guide to resetting an adjustable bed remote.
Control the bed with an app instead
Some brands let you control the base from your phone. Reverie offers the Nightstand app, and our guide to the Richmat adjustable bed remote app explains how that app works. Check your manual to see whether your model supports one.
How to lower a raised bed with no power
If the bed is stuck raised during a power outage, look for an emergency battery backup:
- Tempur-Pedic’s manual describes an “Emergency Battery Backup Box” that works as a temporary power source to move the base.
- One folding-series base manual instructs owners to install 9V batteries in the power supply to move the bed during an outage, warns that the backup will not support repeated movement, and says to remove the batteries once power returns.
- Some bases, such as certain Tempur Zero-G models, have a button on the power-down box that lowers the bed flat.
Not every base has this feature, so check your manual before you try anything.

Frequently asked questions
Most manufacturer support pages describe unplugging the base, not a reset button. Some power supplies have a pairing button (Sven & Son’s is blue), which only re-links the remote.
60 seconds is the most common instruction. Manufacturers we checked range from 20 seconds to 2 minutes, and one brand says 1 hour.
It can fix a frozen control box. If the remote’s light comes on but the bed stays still, the pairing is usually the problem and you will need to re-pair it.
No. A power reset needs power. If the bed is stuck raised, use the emergency battery backup if your base has one.
Tempur-Pedic’s manual says to unplug only when the base is flat with the motors off. Sleep Number lists unplugging for 30 seconds as a step when its base will not return to flat. Keep people and pets clear while you do it.
Final thoughts
A power cycle fixes most unresponsive bases: unplug, wait about a minute, plug in, and check the power light. If the base powers up but ignores the remote, re-pair it. If the remote itself is the problem, reset it, or replace it with a Wallhugger remote for Leggett & Platt beds.
