Sven & Son does not publish a separate mattress manual in its Help Center (October 2026): its User Manuals page lists adjustable bed and headboard manuals only. For a mattress, the instructions that apply to you are on the care tag, in your order paperwork and in the Help Center’s returns, shipping and product pages. This guide covers how to unbox and set up a Sven & Son mattress, how to use it on an adjustable base, how to care for it, and what Sven & Son says about warranty, exchanges and returns.
Last reviewed: October 2026. Details come from Sven & Son’s Help Center and general mattress-care guidance. We have not tested the mattresses ourselves.

Which Sven & Son Mattress Do You Have?
Sven & Son’s Help Center describes the three thicknesses like this: the 10″ Signature Mattress is Firm (for sleepers who prefer support and firmness), the 12″ is Medium (some support with added comfort) and the 14″ is Medium-Soft (plush and soft). Check the label on your mattress to confirm which one you have, because care and exchange steps can depend on it. For comparisons and owner feedback, see our Sven & Son mattress reviews.
How to Unbox and Set Up a Sven & Son Mattress
Sven & Son does not publish its own unboxing steps in the Help Center pages we checked, so these steps are general guidance for a boxed mattress. If your paperwork says something different, follow your paperwork.
- Prepare the space. Clear the room and have a second person help. Mattresses are heavy and awkward.
- Inspect the box. If it is damaged, take photos before you open it and contact Sven & Son. See its page on what to do if your item is damaged.
- Check your delivery type. Sven & Son explains in-home delivery and setup on its in-home delivery page. Its comparison page lists in-home setup at $265 (October 2026), so check the current price when you order.
- Open the box carefully. Use scissors or a box cutter on the tape only, and do not cut into the mattress. Cutting a mattress while unboxing can cause damage that is not covered.
- Place it on the bed base. Put the mattress on the bed frame, foundation or adjustable base before you remove the plastic. Check that the tag or label is at the foot.
- Remove the plastic. Cut the wrapping open away from the mattress surface.
- Let it expand. Boxed mattresses need time to regain their shape. Sven & Son’s Help Center pages we checked did not list an expansion time. Many mattress makers list 24 to 72 hours (for example, Sealy’s manual), so allow up to 72 hours unless your paperwork says otherwise. A warmer room can help.
- Add a protector and bedding. Put on a mattress protector before you make the bed. A small amount of new-mattress odor is common, so air the room.
How to Set Up the Mattress on a Sven & Son Adjustable Base
If you bought a bundle, the mattress goes on top of the base. Sven & Son sells its bases with these mattress sizes: 10″, 12″ and 14″.
- Set up the base first. Attach the legs, put the base where you want it, and plug it in. See our guides on setup and on sizes. A base is heavy, so plan on two people.
- Pair the remote. If the remote does not work, see our guides on the remote manual and on how to reset the remote.
- Place the mattress. Lift it on with a helper. Line it up with the base and keep the head and foot sections flat.
- Check the foot of the mattress. Make sure it stays in place when you raise the head. If it slides, see our mattress retainer bar guide.
- Test the positions. With nothing under the bed, run the base through its range, including zero gravity. See our guide on how to set an adjustable bed to zero gravity.
- Use the right sheets. Sven & Son has a page on where to find sheets and bedding for adjustable beds. A split king needs a split king sheet set. See our split king sheet sets guide.
If you want a headboard attached, see our Sven & Son headboard brackets guide.
Using the Mattress on a Regular Frame or Foundation
If you use a bed frame instead of an adjustable base, the mattress needs a flat, sturdy surface. For a slatted frame, check the maximum slat spacing and whether a center support is required in your paperwork. Avoid old or sagging foundations.
How to Care for a Sven & Son Mattress
Check your care tag first. The general rules below apply to most mattresses, and the Sleep Foundation has a mattress care guide with more detail.
- Use a mattress protector. It shields the mattress from spills, stains and dust. Sven & Son’s own site offers protection plans, so see its add-ons page.
- Spot clean only. Use a small amount of mild detergent and water, dab instead of rubbing, and do not soak the mattress. Let it dry completely before you remake the bed. Check the tag before you use any cleaner.
- Vacuum lightly. A soft brush attachment removes dust.
- Rotate if your tag says so. Many makers suggest rotating a mattress 180 degrees (not flipping it) about every three to six months. Follow your tag, because some designs should not be rotated.
- Do not jump or stand on it. Heavy point loads can damage coils and foam.
- Air the room. Open a window or run a fan to clear odors and moisture.
Warranty and Claims
Sven & Son describes its warranty as free. The Help Center pages we checked do not list the mattress warranty’s length, covered defects or exclusions, so read your order terms or the product page for the mattress you bought, and confirm them in writing before you buy.
To make a claim:
- Contact Sven & Son’s customer service and have your order number and proof of purchase ready.
- Describe the problem and be ready to send photos or video if asked.
- Follow the steps they give you. They may ask for more information before they confirm coverage.
- Keep records of emails, calls and receipts.
If you have problems, see our Sven & Son customer service guide.
120-Night Comfort Exchange, Returns and Refunds
These rules come from Sven & Son’s Help Center, and they differ depending on what you bought. Because they can change, read the current pages before you order.
- Mattress only: The Help Center’s 120-Night Comfort Exchange page says the 120-Night Sleep Guarantee is only available if you buy the mattress alone. If you do not like it in those 120 nights, Sven & Son gets you a different mattress. Its Return Policy page separately lists a 30-day comfort exchange for a different mattress of the same value (you pay the difference to move up). Because the two pages differ, confirm which applies when you order.
- Mattress in a bundle: The 120-Night Sleep Guarantee is not offered on bundle purchases. The Return Policy page says Sven & Son credits the amount you paid for the mattress toward another mattress.
- Adjustable base: It must be returned within 30 days of arrival. You pay return shipping and a 20% restocking fee, and the refund is minus return shipping. Sven & Son asks you to keep the boxes in case there is an issue.
To start a return or exchange, use Sven & Son’s Return Form.
Troubleshooting a New Sven & Son Mattress
- It smells. A mild odor is common with new foam. Air the room and use a protector.
- It has not fully expanded. Give it more time, in a warmer room, and press gently on flat spots.
- It feels too soft or too firm. Compare it with the Help Center’s firmness guide (10″ Firm, 12″ Medium, 14″ Medium-Soft), and check the exchange terms.
- It slides on the adjustable base. Check the retainer at the foot of the base, or see our mattress retainer bar guide.
- It sags or has a dip. Check that the foundation is flat and supported, then contact Sven & Son customer service with photos.
